How The Optio Works
The Optio is a weekly serial with each instalment ending with at least one poll to be voted on by the readers.
The readers will use their vote to determine what happens in the next instalment, the characters in the novel, the settings and plot details.
By giving the readers a stake in the novel the aim is to encourage greater reader engagement than with traditional texts. It also aims to promote discussion with readers with the hope engaging those that have turned their backs on reading.
In order to reduce barriers to reading the Optio is free and accessible to all. There are no fees or subscriptions.
Multiple Ways to Enjoy the Optio
Understanding that not everyone has the time or inclination every week to read every instalment of the Optio there are multiple ways to take part.
Alongside each weekly instalment will be a shortened condescended version. This will have all the story just less of the details and the same options to vote on..
And if you miss an instalment there is no need to worry as a summary of the whole story so far will be updated each week.
Rules of The Optio
For The Optio to succeed it needs to follow a set of disciplined rules.

During the duration of the Optio every Thursday at 8pm GMT the latest instalment is published.

During the duration of the Optio every Monday at 9am GMT votes will close.

Each instalment will end with at least one poll to determine what happens next.

Whatever option wins the most votes will determine what happens next.

To maintain complete transparency the results of the votes will be published separately after each instalment has been published.

Setting of The Optio
The Optio is part of the Journals of Nicholas Briggs Series. Set in Victorian Britain the series follows fourteen year old Nicholas Briggs in his role as assistant to Professor Ashcroft debunker of the supernatural.
Setting The Optio in the series provides a sense of direction on genre, setting and provides a core group of established characters to take part.

Dexter Roberts is the author of The Journals of Nicholas Briggs Series. The Optio is born out of his love of reading and the belief that it is important to encourage others through greater reader engagement.
