How The Interactive Novel Works
The Interactive Novel is published in weekly Instalments. At the end of each instalment is at lease one poll to be voted on by the readers.
Whatever option receives the most votes will determine what happens in the next instalment and will dictate the narrative and outcome of the novel.
Multiple Ways to Enjoy the Interactive Novel
Understanding that not everyone has the time or inclination every week to read every instalment of the Interactive Novel there are multiple ways to take part.
Alongside each weekly instalment will be a shortened condescended version. This will have all the story just less of the details and the same options to vote on.
Reading is not for everyone so both the full and abridged version of each addition is available as an audiobook.
And if you miss an instalment there is no need to worry as a summary of the whole story so far will be updated each week.
Rules of The Interactive Novel
For The Interactive Novel to succeed it needs to follow a set of disciplined rules.

During the duration of the Interactive Novel every Thursday at 8pm GMT the latest instalment of the interactive novel is published.

During the duration of the Interactive Novel every Monday at 8am GMT votes will close. Voting for Part 1 closes on Monday 12th of January 2026.

Each instalment will end with at least one poll to determine what happens next.

Whatever option wins the most votes will determine what happens next.

To maintain complete transparency the results of the votes will be published separately after each instalment has been published.

Setting of The Interactive Novel
The Interactive Novel is part of the Journals of Nicholas Briggs Series. Set in Victorian Britain the series follows fourteen year old Nicholas Briggs in his role as assistant to Professor Ashcroft debunker of the supernatural.
Setting The Interactive Novel in the series provides a sense of direction on genre, setting and provides a core group of established characters to take part.
